South Boston Speedway NASCAR Style Driving Experience

When you arrive at South Boston Raceway, you’ll meet your racing instructors for a driver orientation class. They'll go over safety procedures, the flags used, entering / exiting the track, braking, cornering, passing, and more.

Then, it’s into your fire-retardant racing suit and full-face helmet. You’ll slide through the window, into the driver’s seat and the pit crew will make sure you are buckled snuggly into your 5-point harness. A one-way radio will be connected to your helmet. While you are on the track, an instructor will be on the radio the whole time helping you to drive safely, while at the same time, getting your speed up to an awesome level.

No previous stock car racing experience needed!

It's just you alone in the car putting your driving skills to the ultimate test! All laps are hot laps. There will be no pace car to follow, no instructor in the car, and passing is allowed. How fast you go is all up to you!

The Cars: 

• The race cars are all equipped with standard transmissions. If you need help operating a standard vehicle the pit crews will help you exit the pit area and get to speed quickly.
• Late Model NASCAR style cars that have all raced in competitions.
• These stock cars cars are designed for racing on smaller, short oval racetracks.
• The Late Model’s fiberglass body and strong chassis make the cars lighter and faster than the bigger NASCAR style Cup cars used at larger ovals.

Need to know:

• A valid driver’s license is required.
• The minimum age to drive a race car is 18 years old.
• Ride Along: minimum age is 14 years and they must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to the event.
• Minimum height requirement is 5′ tall.
• Maximum height allowable is 6′ 4″.
• Drivers must be able to climb through a 15” high by 28” wide window that is 35” above the ground.
• Chest and waist size cannot exceed 52".
• Please wear clothes that will be comfortable beneath the driver racing suit.
• Closed toe shoes are required. The shoes you wear should allow you to feel the gas and brake pedals through the sole. A running shoe or equivalent usually works best (no boots). Open-toed shoes are not permitted.
• This experience is weather dependent. If your racing event is cancelled due to weather, your certificate will be rescheduled for a future date. Refunds cannot be issued.
• You are financially responsible for all damage caused to the car due to driver error. A Vehicle Protection Plan is available for $60.00, subject to a $1000.00 deductible. You can purchase optional insurance at the race car track on the day of your event. Due to the quality of the training and cars, damage is rare, but you will be responsible for any damage to the race car.
